What is sexual abuse therapy?

Sexual abuse therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on the emotional and mental damage caused by sexual trauma. Therapy for PTSD from sexual abuse includes finding solutions to current problems in life using the skills learned in therapy. Therapy can help a survivor overcome psychological issues in order to live a healthy, happy, successful life after being sexually abused.

Sexual abuse is an act forced upon another person through physical violence or pressure with the intent to cause harm or discomfort.

Sexually abusive acts include but are not limited to rape, molestation, exposure or voyeurism. An individual who has been sexually abused may experience symptoms including flashbacks, nightmares, and severe depression among others that need professional attention immediately. Different types of sexual abuse therapy

Crisis Intervention

Crisis intervention is the first step in any recovery from sexual abuse.

Crisis intervention is when the patient will engage with a professional to describe their ordeal and help them deal with it emotionally. Crisis intervention also deals with ensuring that the injuries sustained are not life-threatening, and if they are, a call for emergency services must be acted upon immediately. Crisis intervention can either be provided by a medical facility such as a hospital or at our office, depending on what your case calls for.

Mental health professionals should have knowledge of how trauma affects children's development and behaviors. These professionals usually assist their patients during this phase which lasts about 3 months based on the severity of the sexual assault incident.

Group therapy sessions

We have found that group therapy sessions are beneficial for people going through sexual assault and trauma as group sessions allow you to realize that you are not alone.

That unfortunately these things happen, This will allow you to connect to members of the community. Group sessions will enable you to realize that you are not alone regarding the sexual abuse and assault issue. Group sessions also help in giving you an outlet as a victim of sexual assault whereby you can share your experience with others in a similar position who can relate. Group therapy will allow you to connect with people who will understand and guide you back on track, Group therapy allows for the victims/survivors to get their voice heard, they usually have group sessions with counselors or therapists by themselves first where they express how they feel, then they attend a group session where others can empathize, listen and talk about own experiences to support one another during this phase.

Neurofeedback Therapy

EEG Biofeedback, Brainpaint Neurofeedback therapy training has been shown to have a positive effect on post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.

Neurofeedback works by repatterning the brain to reduce trauma and allows you to regain control of your emotions, moods, and behavior. Neurofeedback training is great for individuals who have undiagnosed PTSD or diagnosed PTSD symptoms. Neurofeedback has also been shown to be effective for reducing stress, anxiety, irritability, anger, depression, fatigue, concentration problems, and memory problems associated with PTSD as well as many other disorders such as ADD/ADHD and TBI. Neurofeedback uses sensors that are attached to the scalp by EEG electrodes to help an individual learn how to self-regulate their brain waves to reduce emotional distress related to trauma. Neurofeedback training can help you manage your emotions more effectively so that you are no longer easily triggered into a state of fear or anxiety-causing poor coping skills which often lead back to re-experiencing memories.

Neurofeedback for abuse is an effective therapy as it allows for clients to explore what their triggers are and work through them in a safe environment.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive therapy as it uses sensors that measure brain waves rather than electrodes that are placed directly on the tissue of the brain (Cefaly, Inc., 2017). Neurofeedback allows the individual to gain control over their thoughts and feelings, while also reducing their overall anxiety which may lead back to re-experiencing traumatic memories. Neurofeedback can be used for PTSD treatment quickly during EMDR therapy or at any time when you feel stress building up from past trauma.

A Neurotherapy session will begin with the client and therapist discussing what sessions they wish to have as well as what emotional state they wish to accomplish, this is beneficial as the sexual assault survivor and work on the traumas on a subconscious level, this will produce large benefits in clients everyday lives and provide them with coping mechanisms that will help them feel better.
